Distillery Focus – Aultmore Sherry Butts
Our Aultmore inventory is released for sale today. 2015 Fresh Oloroso Butt (RR from refill Sherry Butt Jan’ 22).
The casks have been re racked into Oloroso Butts from refill Sherry butts.
Oloroso finishes typically appreciate at a slightly higher rate. A butt is 500 litres as opposed to a standard cask size of 200 litres or a Hogshead of 250 litres.
The sheer volume of fluid makes these casks attractive for 2 main reasons:
1) Time – butts can mature for significantly longer given the surface area making them ideal for a longer term investment
2) Sale – independent bottlers seek out Butts given they can produce limited single casks release with a larger volume of bottles.
The casks have also entered their 7th year (15% of casks reach this age). This also makes them rarer increasing the rate of return.
